Clothing Measurements Guide

Methods for determining measurements are not necessarily standardized for all online stores.  This guide will help in understanding how clothing measurements are determined and presented in the Size Chart. Not all brand sizes are the same and shopping on-line can be risky unless you know the methods used to determine the measurements.  Accurate measurements are crucial when shopping for clothing on-line!

In general, all our measurements are taken flat across the front, are specific to each individual product, and are provided in inches.   We suggest you take one of your favorite dresses, tops, sweaters, or jackets, lay it on a flat surface and make a note of the measurements.  This way when you compare against our size chart – it will be a perfect fit!

How to measure your favorite Dresses, Tops, Sweaters, and Jackets

Bust

Probably the most requested measurement is the bust measurement. The top is measured across the chest with the garment lying flat, not stretched, but 'relaxed'. The measurement is taken from side seam to side seam directly under the armhole or sleeve.  For example, if the measurement listed in the Size Chart for an item is 19”, this measurement would typically map to a measurement of Bust - 38" relaxed.

Waist

The item is measured across the waistline with the garment lying flat. The measurement is taken from side to side directly at the waistline. For example, if the measurement is 13”, this would be doubled to provide a measurement of Waist - 26".

Hip

For hip measurements, the item is measured across the hip with the garment lying flat, not stretched, but relaxed. The measurement is taken from side to side directly at the hip line. For example, a hip measurement of 20" would typically be doubled to map to a measurement of Hip - 40".

Length

Length measurements are obtained by measuring the length of the item from the top of the shoulder, at the collar, to the hemline as shown below.

Sleeve

Sleeve measurements are obtained by measuring from the top shoulder seam to the cuff.
